About this subject

  • Upon successful completion of this subject, the student should be able to:

    1. Understand and demonstrate basic counselling skills
    2. Understand different models of counselling
    3. Make accurate observation of verbal and non-verbal behaviour including the ability to discriminate between observation and interpretation of behaviour
    4. Have knowledge of a generic three-stage model of counselling
    5. Establish and maintain a constructive and facilitative counselling relationship
    6. Identify and demonstrate basic counselling micro-skills
    7. Demonstrate ability to present and constructively critique one’s own counselling performance

To enrol in this subject you must be accepted into one of the following degrees:

Core

  • TAS-COU-GCE-2024 - Graduate Certificate of Counselling
  • TAS-COU-GDI-2024 - Graduate Diploma in Counselling

Additional requirements

  • Other requirements - Teaching arrangement: 1-day workshops x 3
